How to Install a Tongsheng Motor: The Key Steps
Installing a Tongsheng mid-drive motor takes method more than exceptional skill. Here are the six steps that structure any installation, whichever TSDZ model you've chosen.
Before you start: compatibility
Nearly every Tongsheng motor we track accepts a 68 to 73 mm bottom bracket (up to 75 mm for the TSDZ2B) — the most common standard on mountain and city bikes. Measure yours before buying anything: a non-standard bottom bracket makes installation impossible without an adapter, rarely included with the kit.

The six installation steps
Check bike compatibility
Measure the bottom bracket and check the clearance around the pedal area for the motor housing, which is bulkier than a standard bottom bracket.
Remove the old bottom bracket
Remove the crank arms with a matching extractor tool, then the stock bottom bracket with the tool for its standard.
Fit the motor into the frame
Insert the Tongsheng motor and tighten it to the torque specified in the kit's instructions — over-tightening can damage the frame's threads.
Mount the chainring and crank arms
Fit the supplied chainring, then the crank arms, respecting the mounting side specific to each one.
Wire the controller, battery and display
Connect the waterproof connectors, checking each one before powering on — a poorly seated connector is the most frequent cause of failure at first start-up.
Configure the display and test
Set the wheel size and assist levels, then test at low speed in a clear space before normal use.
The most common mistakes
The bottom bracket tightening torque. Under-tightening causes play and rattling; over-tightening can crack an aluminum frame. Follow the value stated in the instructions precisely, not a "by feel" estimate.
Crank arm mounting side. Left and right crank arms aren't interchangeable on most kits — mounting one backwards causes play or prevents proper tightening.
Poorly seated connectors. Tongsheng's waterproof connectors need a firm push until they click; a half-seated connector sometimes works for a few minutes before assist cuts out.
After installation
Always test at low speed, in a clear space, before returning to normal use — that's when a mounting fault (play, noise, assist cutting out) is easiest to spot, without risk.
