Tongsheng TSDZ16: Full Review
The Tongsheng TSDZ16 is, on paper, the most powerful motor in the entire range we track: up to 1,000 W and 160 N·m claimed. It's also the only one of the four models on this site with no official Tongsheng spec sheet found anywhere — a fact we think worth highlighting rather than glossing over.
Verdict at a glance
The highest claimed torque in the range, sold by serious resellers under a consistent name — but a spec sheet resting entirely on third-party sources, for lack of any manufacturer documentation found to date.
✓ Pros
- The highest claimed torque in the range we track: 160 N·m
- Power up to 1,000 W depending on configuration
- Sold by the same specialist resellers as the official models (Varstrom, notably)
- Universal 68 to 73 mm bottom bracket
✕ Cons
- Missing from Tongsheng’s current official catalog (tongsheng-e.com) — unlike the TSDZ8 and TSDZ2B
- Weight and dimensions rest on a single source only
- Water resistance (IPX6 claimed) unconfirmed by the manufacturer
Who it's for
Riders who want the maximum power available under the Tongsheng name — cargo bikes, significant elevation gain, heavy loads — and accept the lack of manufacturer spec sheet as a trade-off.
Skip it if…
Official traceability of the model matters to you: the TSDZ8 already offers up to 140 N·m with a spec sheet fully published by Tongsheng.
What we verified — and what we couldn't find
Tongsheng's official mid-drive motor catalog (tongsheng-e.com), checked on July 27, 2026, lists six models: TSDZ8, TSDZ2B, TSDZ3, TSDZ5, TSDZ5A and TSDZ10. The TSDZ16 isn't among them. Yet it's sold widely under the "Tongsheng" name by specialist resellers who also sell the official models — which doesn't formally rule out a rebadge unrelated to the manufacturer, but makes it unlikely.
What we don't know. We can't confirm whether the TSDZ16 corresponds to a model aimed at a different distribution channel (OEM, a market not covered by the current manufacturer site) or a reference more recent than the online catalog's last update. We document the fact rather than settle it without proof.
Spec sheet
| Rated power | 1 000 W |

| Water resistance (IP) | Not disclosed |
| Bottom bracket | 68 à 73 mm |

Torque and bottom bracket: two independent, consistent resellers (Varstrom, Velocite). Weight and dimensions: a single, unreconciled source — the corresponding fields are marked "Not disclosed" when a figure can't be shown with sufficient confidence.
Our scores by criterion
Our full grid is detailed in our rating system.
Performance drives the score: no other motor in the range claims higher torque. The other three criteria suffer from the lack of manufacturer confirmation.

The TSDZ8 remains, in our view, the more rational trade-off: already-high torque (up to 140 N·m) and a spec sheet fully confirmed by the manufacturer, for the same entry price.
Our method
Torque and bottom bracket come from two consistent resellers; weight and dimensions, from a single source, explicitly flagged as such. No manufacturer spec sheet was found for this model. → Our full method
Frequently asked questions
Is the TSDZ16 a genuine Tongsheng motor?
Everything suggests it is: naming consistent with the rest of the range (TSDZ2, TSDZ2B, TSDZ8), sold by the same specialist resellers (Varstrom, notably) who also sell the official models. But we found no listing on the manufacturer site (tongsheng-e.com): the current official catalog stops at the TSDZ8. That’s a verified fact, not an accusation — but a reason to stay cautious.
Why doesn’t Tongsheng list the TSDZ16 on its site?
We don’t know for certain, and no reliable source explains it. Several hypotheses remain open: a model aimed at B2B/OEM channels rather than documented direct sales, a release more recent than the manufacturer site’s last update, or simply a different distribution setup. We don’t settle between these hypotheses without evidence.
Does the TSDZ16 really put out 160 N·m of torque?
That’s the figure reported by two independent, consistent resellers (Varstrom and Velocite), making it a reasonably reliable data point despite the lack of manufacturer confirmation. Weight (6 kg) and dimensions, however, come from a single source only — we present them as such.
